There’s no such thing as a traditional piece of Betsey Johnson fashion. These sunglasses might look classic at first glance, but you just know the flamboyant designer has something up her sleeve.
The black oval frames look like nothing special when viewed from the front, but sneak a peek from the side and it’s a different story. Adorable heart shaped cut-outs near the hinges make the definitive retro style statement.

Such a cutesy accent will never please everybody, but it should wow Betsey Johnson’s legions of fans. As someone that tends to sit on the fence when it comes to Johnson’s designs, I too think she gets away with it. If she’d opted for bright pink frames the look would be too much, but the basic black or mottled tortoiseshell temper the embellishment.
What concerns me most is that these sunglasses appear to be all style with little substance. They’re made from acetate so you’ll need to treat them carefully if you hope to wear them for a few seasons. The complimentary pouch isn’t likely to offer the shades any protection, although its metallic pink shade is a winner.
The sunglasses are tinted, but they don’t come with any SPF rating or other assurances. Your eyes might feel safe, but without those guarantees I’m not sure how much protection the shades really provide.
At just $85 though, we wouldn’t expect these sunglasses to be without flaws. If you have fallen for their adorable good looks, make sure you wear a wide-brimmed hat to keep your eyes safe.
