Sometimes it feels like designers simply make up product names to set their apparel apart. We’ve seen bikinis, tankinis, and even monokinis. And now thanks to Nautica there’s a new beach top in town: the halterkini.
This Grommet Halterkini is essentially a tankini, but it ties around the neck like a halter top. This style works with the soft cups to give girls a lift, a real advantage considering Nautica only offers this style in petite sizes 8 and 10.

But no matter what it’s called, this isn’t your classic tankini. It’s cut much higher to show a bit of belly, so it’s really only for girls who are comfortable with their figure. That’s right; girls that are a size 8 or 10.
I’m beginning to curse being a bit bigger, because the nautical design is very appealing. Pale blue accents complement the horizontal navy and white stripes, and the laced grommets give the halterkini real personality. Perhaps it’s time to get on the treadmill!
The $66 price tag seals the deal for me. It isn’t the cheapest swim top I’ve seen, but its classic maritime styling represents value for money. I’ve got a couple of months to get into shape before beach season rolls around. Who’s with me?
