Despite its name, this hat isn’t made from regular ribbon at all. Instead strips of polyester have been sewn together to create a subtle stripey look. The choice of material may not be as luxurious as a satin ribbon, but it’s very smart. It ups the sun protection factor to an impressive UPF 50+, so you needn’t worry about burnt scalps or other UV damage.

You can squash it up inside a beach bag or closet during winter, then pull it out again and it’ll be good as new.
This Scala hat doesn’t have the most exciting look, but it has a classic appeal. I particularly like the wide brim, which while stylish also helps shade your face, ears, and neck.
Black and brown hues have an evergreen appeal, but I’d prefer something with a bit more pop for summer. The color palette may leave a bit to be desired, but for $34.99 Scala offers genuine value.
